SPRING HAS ARRIVED AT WES!

Where has this school year gone? Tomorrow is the first day of the last nine weeks! This is by far the busiest time of the year. We are in the middle of MAP testing. The new PASS writing test is behind us and we are working hard to prepare for the remainder of the PASS test in May. I am working with a new Soar to Success group with students from Ms. Baker and Ms. Zelmer. They are making great progress in reading! Special thanks to parents who are encouraging them to read and take AR tests. This does make such a difference!

Open House and Family Literacy Night

It was good to see some of my students and their parents at our Open House and Family Literacy Night on October 14. It is hard to believe that we have been in school for 9 weeks already. I will be sending progress reports home with the Soar to Success students on October 29. This is the same day they will bring report cards home. Parents, please sign and return the progress reports.

Testing for Third Graders

For the next few days the third grade Soar to Success students will be taking the Gates-Macginitie Test for vocabulary and comprehension. This test is given when the students begin and again when they complete the Soar to Success program. This is one way to measure their progress in reading. We also look at MAP scores and performance in the classroom.

I'm Missing School!

I have been out of school this week due to gallbladder surgery. I have really missed everyone and look forward to getting back to school on Monday. I will be sending home progress reports for my third grade Soar to Success students next week. I appreciate your patience. Thanks to Mrs. Dawn Collins for substituting in my classroom. She always does a great job!

Starting a New Group

This week I began working with a group of second graders from Ms. Metts' class. We are going to do lots of fun things in reading. We will do 100 Book Challenge, reading and writing projects, Accelerated Reader, vocabulary studies and conferencing. I am really excited about the opportunity to work with these students.

First Day for Soar Group!

I am excited to begin my Soar to Success group with third grade today! Last week I worked on my schedule and got everything ready to begin. Today I also went into fifth grade language arts, social studies and math classes. I can already see that these students are going to work hard and set high goals. This is going to be an exciting school year!
